Steven L. Herman

A veteran journalist with decades of experience in Asia, Steven L Herman is the Voice of America's bureau chief and correspondent based in Seoul. Prior to taking his post in South Korea in mid-2010, Steve was VOA's South Asia bureau chief in New Delhi, India. Steve was based in Japan for many years, reporting for VOA and other broadcasters including AP Radio, CBC, CBS and Deutsche Welle. He is a former AP staff newsman who began his journalism career in local radio and television in Las Vegas, Nevada.
His Twitter (@W7VOA) coverage from Japan’s earthquake and tsunami disaster sites in 2011 was cited by numerous major media outlets globally.
Steven's articles, columns, opinion pieces and reviews have been published in numerous newspapers and magazines, including the Far Eastern Economic Review, Harvard Summer Review, Honolulu Star-Bulletin, Japan Quarterly, Japan Times, Outlook India, Popular Communications, Proceedings (U.S. Naval Institute), the South China Morning Post and the Wall Street Journal.
Steven was elected for five consecutive years (1998-2002) to serve as Chairman of The Foreign Press in Japan (FPIJ) after completing a one-year term as President of the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan (FCCJ). He is currently President of the Seoul Foreign Correspondents' Club. He is also a member of the Asian American Journalists Association and the Overseas Press Club of America.
