WASHINGTON, D.C.
— Vincent Makori, the host of VOA’s TV magazine show,
In Focus
, says he has always liked getting information from people and learning what motivates them.
Makori has traveled extensively in Africa, Europe and the United States, to cover world summits and for in-depth interviews with people from all walks of life.
In 2003, he visited five African nations with U.S. President George W. Bush.
Makori says his favorite stories are the ones that highlight individuals who make a difference and empower people. “It is those interviews with people who do extremely great works in some of the most hopeless places and touch the lives of so many people that I enjoy the most,” Makori says.

His most memorable stories include a Ugandan who provides a home for orphaned children, and a person who lost his hands and legs through disease but became an artist and then created a charity to help other disabled people.
“Through my job I’ve learned so much and been able to raise awareness of various countries. It makes me appreciate people in a different way,” he says.
Looking back at the highlights of his career, he points to interviews with President Bush and African Presidents Hifikepunye Pohamba of Namibia, John Kufuor of Ghana, and Bingu wa Mutharika of Malawi.
