Alen Mlatisuma is currently the Acting Director of VOA’s Eurasia division. Prior to this position he oversaw and guided Voice of America’s digital media and audience engagement in the highly saturated and sophisticated media markets of Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, and the Balkans. As a creative producer, manager and strategist, with a wealth of journalistic expertise across multiple media platforms, Mlatisuma has a track record of generating audience growth through engaging content, social media marketing, state-of-the-art technology, and dynamic SEO strategies. He led the development of new initiatives, programs, content features, applications, and interactive and mobile products, most recently training investigative journalists in Macedonia, Bosnia, Serbia, and Albania, on visual storytelling and mobile journalism. Mlatisuma joined VOA in 2003 as a broadcaster and news editor with the Serbian service. He hosted the popular TV newscast Open Studio and covered breaking domestic and international news stories until 2008, when he was appointed the Eurasia Division’s Internet Managing Editor. Before joining VOA, he served as a correspondent for the Associated Press and Managing Editor with Antena M, the first independent radio station in post-communist Montenegro. He reported from the Balkan region for regional and international media organizations, and was an editor and publisher of Graffiti Magazine, one of the few satirical media outlets in the war-ravaged Balkans in the 1990s.
