Correcting the Record

Allegations of plagiarism are serious and must be dealt with quickly, honestly and openly.

That is why VOA has issued a correction on a January 6th online story about University of Cincinnati researchers who say ancient Romans’ diet included meat from exotic animals like giraffe. (click here)

Clearly there was no intent to plagiarize. The VOA article prominently displayed a link to the University of Cincinnati news release and quoted the university researcher by name.

However, a number of passages were pulled directly from the news release. They should have been properly attributed, rewritten and followed up with a call to the university.
