British singer-songwriter Jessie Ware tells VOA she’s been lucky in her career. The up and coming pop star sat down recently with Border Crossings host Larry London to talk about how she got into the business.

“I’ve been very lucky, it’s been lots of other people having the belief in me, rather than me having the belief in me,” the singer revealed. In fact, she told Larry she once pursued a journalism career working at a television production company, but when a friend asked her to be a backup singer for a BBC radio program, she jumped at the offer. She then began touring with her friend, and shortly after, was signed to PMR Productions.

Her rise to fame began with her hit single, Wildest Moments, which is included in her latest album, Devotion. The popular song is about Jessie’s relationship with her best friend. While in studio, Jessie performed the hit single and tracks off her album.

“I love America, the audiences are amazing here – they’re really open, they sing back at you,” Jessie said.

Jessie’s warm voice and songwriting gifts have already earned her two Brit Award nominations. She has even been compared to Adele, who happens to be a fan.

Jessie had the chance to perform at some of the biggest music festivals earlier this year, including the Wireless Festival and Coachella. In the coming months, she begins her U.S. tour.
