VOA’s Midwest Correspondent Wins Five Peter Lisagor Awards

Voice of America’s Midwest correspondent, Kane Farabaugh, is the winner of five 2020 Peter Lisagor awards from the Chicago Headline Club, the Chicago chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. This is the largest number of Peter Lisagor awards that VOA has ever received in a given year.

Farabaugh won in the “Best Business or Consumer Reporting” category for his TV series “Producing in a Pandemic;” in the “Best Health or Science Reporting” category for "High-tech fight against COVID-19;" in the “Best News Specialty/Business/Consumer News Feature or Series” category for the TV series “Between Trump and Trade;” in the “Best News Specialty/Health/Science News” category for “50 years ago, Apollo 13 moon mission became NASA’s ‘successful failure’;” and as “Best Video Journalist.”

“Congratulations to Kane for winning a record number of awards this year and for being named Best Video Journalist for a third year in a row,” said Acting VOA Director, Yolanda Lόpez. “I’m so pleased that our reporting on America’s story in such a challenging year has been so enormously recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists.”

Every year, the Chicago Headline Club, the oldest chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists that celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, honors the best journalism produced across the Chicago region in more than 100 categories, including newspapers, magazines, television, radio and digital media, with the Peter Lisagor Awards.
