VOA Statement on Injuries to a Burmese Service Journalist by Myanmar Security Forces

The Voice of America condemns the recent incidents in Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city, involving security forces and protesters against the military coup in that country, as a VOA Burmese journalist covering the protests is among the injured.

“Democracy depends on a free press and free flow of information,” said Acting VOA Director Yolanda López. “These incidents underscore, once again, threats journalists face daily around the world. VOA condemns these and other attacks that put the lives of our very brave journalists at risk and undermine a free press.”
