Acting VOA Director Recognizes Workforce on COVID-19 Pandemic One Year Anniversary

March 11, 2021 marked one year since the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic. The Voice of America workforce, like so many others around the globe, faced lockdowns and quarantines while balancing work and home life. As a 24-hour news organization and broadcaster, VOA faced immediate challenges, including overcoming and meeting hurdles produced by new technologies and remote working conditions.

“VOA not only has endured, but also thrived as the result of the challenges posed by the coronavirus,” said Acting VOA Director Yolanda López. A new VOA video acknowledges and pays tribute to the staff’s sacrifices and accomplishments over the past year as journalists and technical team members worked together to continue to fulfill VOA’s mission.

Executive Producer Euna Lee, VOA Programming, and contributors Steve Redisch, Misha Maisuradze and Matt Dibble produced the 4-minute video.
