VOANews.com Rated a Top Website in 2009


VOA ranked in the top 10 percent of websites worldwide

Washington, D.C., December 18, 2009 – VOANews.com, the Voice of America’s (VOA) main Internet site, is ranked in the top 10 percent of websites worldwide, according to Newsknife’s list of Top News Sites in 2009.

Newsknife rankings reflect the number of times a website appears first in a list of major news stories posted on the Google News’ home page. Newsknife is a project of Industry Standard Computing Ltd., a New Zealand software development organization.

In the month of November 2009, VOANews.com ranked sixth in the overall percentage total of stories that appeared in the Google News home page. More than 29% of VOANews.com’s total traffic is referred by Google News.

VOANews.com’s current customer satisfaction score for November 2009 is 81, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). This score is higher than that of most other well-known news and information websites.

The Voice of America, which first went on the air in 1942, is a multimedia international broadcasting service funded by the U.S. government through the Broadcasting Board of Governors. VOA broadcasts approximately 1,500 hours of news, information, educational, and cultural programming every week to an estimated worldwide audience of more than 125 million people. Programs are produced in 45 languages and are intended exclusively for audiences outside of the United States.
