The Voice of America is elated to announce the release of our English to Africa language service freelance journalist Diing Magot, working for our South Sudan in Focus program, who was detained in Juba, South Sudan on August 7, while covering a protest in the Konyokonyo market on assignment for VOA. Magot and six protesters arrested were released on bail from the Malakia police station in Juba on Monday morning (local time), August 15. Magot’s lawyer verified she was granted bail but was unsure about potential future proceedings in her case.

We also want to express our gratitude to the South Sudan Union of Journalists, their colleagues from the VOA English to Africa service and everyone else on the ground in Juba that worked tirelessly for her release.
