From bureaus around the world and Voice of America headquarters in Washington, D.C., VOA journalists have chronicled the rise of the Islamic State group and its adapt use of social media to recruit and spread militant propaganda. On October 21st, Voice of America and the Newseum Institute are partnering to take a deeper look at the IS media machine in a live televised special: ISIS and the Digital War. Hosts Mil Arcega and Gene Policinski will lead the one-hour forum that will explore, through a panel of experts, ways in which the West and moderate Islam have been working to out-message IS. The panel of experts include:
Baroness Emma Nicholson of Winterbourne, a former member of the British House of Commons; a World Health Organization Envoy; and Honorary Adviser to the Prime Minister of Iraq.
Michael Weiss, a well-known American journalist specializing in Syria and the Middle East.
Lorenzo Vidino, Ph.D., an academic and security expert who specializes in Islamism and political violence in Europe and North America.
